UnZIP, v1.0
-----------

UnZip is a ProDOS 8 system application.

UnZIP is a program to handle the IBM compression format .ZIP. Many files up on
IBM bbs's are in this format. Also, it is an efficient format for transmit,
even better than ShrinkIt.

UnZIP should have a familiar looking interface. It is very almost identical to
ShrinkIt. If you have used ShrinkIt before, you should have no problems with
UnZIP's interface. If you have not, some basic instructions follow, which
experienced users may skip.

To UnZIP a file...
------------------
UnZIP offers two decompression alternatives, to disk, and to screen. To disk
simply writes all the information into a file, for later viewing or processing.
To screenputs it onto your monitor, with no need to delete a file or worry about
fragmenting your disk. Choose 'O' or 'V', for to disk or to screen,
respectively. Once you have pressed the letter, or selected the option with the
arrows and pressed return, a file dialog will pop up. In this, several keys are
active:

ARROWS: Move up or down in the scroll box
OA-ARROWS: Move up or down one page in the scroll box
TAB: Go to the next drive
OA-O: Scan all online volumes
OA-G: 'Go', do function
RETURN: Do function or open directory
ESC: Go up one directory level
OA-.: Abort (just period also works)

Select the .ZIP file you want to work with, and press return. A file, TEST.ZIP,
should be included in your shrink of UnZIP. Once you have done this, another
dialog, listing all the files within the ZIP will appear. Operative in this
dialog are the following keys:

ARROWS: Move up or down
RETURN: Do function
SPACE: Select file
OA-.: Abort (again, just '.' works)
OA-A: Select all

At this point, if you had selected 'O', for disk extracts, you will be prompted
to select a directory to put the unZIPed files in. This is similar to the first
dialog, just navigate the directories until you are where you want to extract
to, then press return on '<Select Current Folder>'.

Now if you have chosen to unZIP to disk, a status bar will pop up and go until
your file(s) is/are unZIPed. If you have chosen view, the screen will clear,
the filename will go at the top, with a little hourglass in the corner. The
hourglass means that the program is 'thinking' about it's unZIPing, it may take
a few seconds, especially when it first starts on a file. Once it is done, the
information will appear on the screen, with control characters and CR/LFs
together filtered out. When it says '---more---', press return to go to the
next file, . or ESC to abort, or any other key to see the next page of
information. The same goes for when it prompts '---EOF---', except that it
ignores other keys.

UnZIP: A Breakdown
-------------------
Ok, the breakdown on what all the menu functions do, in case you can't figure it
out.

Q-Quit: Self explanatory, this quits to ProDOS.
O-Open: Open a .ZIP to write to disk. See above for instructions on
         selecting files and so forth.
V-View: View files within a .ZIP, without having to actually extract them!
This is one of the features that I really miss on other Apple //
archiving utilities. I wish ShrinkIt had this!
?-About: About UnZIP. Pretty much self explanatory, it just tells you
what UnZIP is, and where you can reach me, and reminds you that you
want to send me money for my efforts. Notice how fast it goes up on
         the screen!

The Normal Shareware Plea for Money
-----------------------------------
Well, you knew that this had to be coming. I wrote this program without the
expectation of getting rich from it, but I have spent many, many hours on it,
and some reconsempation would be nice for all that. So, if you like this
program, and continue using it, please send a check for $10 or so to:

If you can give me an Internet email address then I'll even send you any updates
of UnZIP that I might release! Or if you want to contact me, my internet
address is power@grex.ann-arbor.mi.us. If you just d/led this file over your
local bbs and are wondering what all this talk about internet is, don't worry
about it, it's a worldwide network of computers, with facilities for email to
allow the sending out of files for free (instead of mailing disks :) ).

Good luck UnZIPing!

Future Updates
--------------
Better error handling.

More .ZIP compression types.

Prefix entering in the file dialogs. UnZIP currently forces you to navigate the
directories manually.

A prompt dialog when files are to be overwritten. UnZIP currently does NOT ask
you if you want to delete a file. If an older file is in the way of a file to
be unZIPed, it is removed. Please be careful, don't keep important files in the
same directory you unZIP to. In any case, Russ Woodroofe is not responsible for
any damage UnZIP may cause. It has been tested well. However there is the above
mentioned problem, and a few bugs always slip by.
